It's been quite some time since I updated. It was May to be exact. In that time, I've taken care of some personal concerns (ie the death of my Grandma), gotten my health back into shape, and delved deep into studying narratives. In that time, I also got a new job, moved to LA, and I'm ready to hit the ground running again.
This summer, I've spent a lot of time having TV show ADD. I can't seem to stay on just one. Luckily shows like Game of Thrones and Rick and Morty have been airing over the summer, so I'm not just watching nothing. I've made a point to work my way through West Wing, and I've been watching a lot of cheesy movies, more specifically, Disney Channel Movies. Overall, it's been a weird summer that's reminded me why I love this industry: stories.
Stories come in all shapes and sizes and mediums. From a good song to a captivating podcast, I find that what I'm searching for isn't always the best technical feat but the best story telling. Sometimes a simple story can be just as satisfying as a complex epic. Humans react to narratives in specific ways. In fact, we remember things better when they're presented as a story instead of just regular facts. A story isn't just a story, narratives serve a function to the brain. I've recently learned about the field of narratology. I've started subscribing to academic magazines to learn more about the discoveries being made about narrative, which will help me shape stories as I move forward in my career.
So as the summer comes to an end, I raise a glass to starting new, starting energized, and going forward!
